Pattern Analysis
Volatility Contraction Pattern (VCP) is our setup-quality lens for catching stocks right before they break out. It was Mark Minervini who formalized and popularized VCP as a repeatable breakout framework. In a VCP, an advancing stock pulls back two or more times; each subsequent correction is shallower than the last (for example −20%, then −12%, then −6%), the daily high-to-low range compresses, and trading volume dries up. This sequence shows that sellers are exhausting themselves while demand quietly absorbs supply—so risk gets smaller and reward expands once price clears the pivot on renewed volume.
Our VCP suite—VCP Forming, VCP-Health Check, VCP-Break out analysis—extends this logic across formation size and time frame. Each reading grades how cleanly a stock contracted: a high score means shallower pullbacks, narrowing ranges, fading volume and a breakout from the tightest area, i.e., the same coil-and-release behavior seen in many of the market's winners.
