Relative Strength

Relative Strength (RS) or Relative Price Strength (RPS) is our momentum-grade lens for identifying true market leaders. It was William J. O’Neil who turned relative strength into a practical investment system, popularizing a 1–99 Relative Strength Rating that ranks each stock against all others over a trailing period. RPS research showed that the biggest winners typically carried very high scores before their major advances — which is why institutional and growth-oriented investors treat high relative strength as a primary filter, not a secondary statistic. RPS is NOT RSI. RSI is a 0–100 oscillator based on a stock’s own recent gains vs losses; RPS ranks a stock against the market.

Our RPS suite—RPS20, RPS50, RPS120 and RPS250—extends this logic across short, medium and long horizons. Each reading is a percentile rank: an RPS of 90 means the stock beat 90% of its peers over that window.

This page shows relative strength for Nasdaq 100 stocks for illustrative purposes only. It is not investment advice.
